*Has anyone ever had an ear infection? I had chronic ones when I was younger. Believe me, the last thing I would be able to do would be to drive super fast in a ridiculously hot car for a few hours while taking multiple Gs to the head. That's heroic.

My Directed Study topic makes me sound smarter than I actually am.

Directed Study with Steven Ostrow, Fall 2008:

An in-depth study of the production and interdiction of religious art in the 16th and 17th century Dutch Netherlands, with particular emphasis on Rembrandt, Vermeer, and that other guy who painted churches whose name I've forgotten.

Also, my professor has absolutely no background in this, so I'm pioneering this virtually alone! Hurrah!

My FAVORITE Driver (at least right now)

So I sat down and did some deep thinking last night. I just starting watching F1 last season. And I've had a hard time picking out a favorite driver. Like, favorite. Not just the one you hope does well or cheer on occasionally when you are pissed off at someone else. Anyways, you guys know that I sometimes I have ridiculous reasons for supporting some drivers over others. Well, I've decided that I really like Felipe Massa. Why? Because I had a dream last night that we were playing "Pretty, Pretty Princess" and I never got to play that game when I was little! Anyways, it was a great time. And as much as I love Kimi Raikkonen, I just can't see him wearing the tiara.

"Michael Schumacher Story - The Movie"

So it appears that Michael Schumacher may soon become an actor, portraying himself in a movie about his racing career. No, this is not my idea; I am not the one producing it, because I would definitely have a better title than "Michael Schumacher Story - The Movie." I am assuming that Schumi will insist on doing all his own stunts. I'm also guessing they will probably have to include a (largely fictional) Bond-inspired chase scene, just so he could drive/run/sky dive/scooter away from the baddies. I've added a picture below of rehearsal for the scene in which Michael daringly saves the princess (as played by Felipe Massa) totally unarmed, while riding an electric scooter.

Viking Attack Via E-mail Creates Semester Woes

I have to drop Medieval Military History. :( There was a huge paper. I thought it was due next week, but Austin asked Mr. Bivans (pictured at left) and he says it's due today. It's a good thing I have my one-time late drop. Boo.. Luckily, I can still recover from this by taking an extra History course next semester. It'll be a tight squeeze into my schedule, but I'll just have to work extra, extra hard. :(

Scholarshipz!

As many of you may know, I did not get the Selmer-Birkelo scholarship, because my nominator had a due date mix-up. Whether or not I would have gotten it, I don't know. But a nice consolation prize came from the Art History department today: I got the Puffer Scholarship for my May Term!

I was supposed to be in bed almost an hour ago, so I'm cranky!

Okay, so I did not fail. Far from it. I hope that Professor Ostrow was not totally freaked out by my gleeful outburst in his office when he told me my grade. So, life can go on now.

That Baroque Art midterm still haunts my dreams.

B. Getting midterms back at the end of class
C. Not getting midterms back because someone didn't come to class and take it with everyone else.

That's right, the answer is C. We're waiting on one girl to take her exam. Out of a class of sixty-five-ish. C'mon!

Here was the breakdown of grades:

Roughly 50% As and Bs. 25% Cs. The rest, Ds and "several Fs." So I am panicking. Srsly, 4 realz.

Academic Woes

This has been kind of a rough week. That midterm didn't go so well, and I've got a lot of Drawing back work to do. I am trying to get this semester back on track, because I feel like it's falling apart. What happened?

Today in F1

Schumacher brothers disagree on BMWs performance.
BMW and Mercedes take a swing at Max Mosley.
Mosley swings back at BMW and Mercedes hinting at them being actual Nazis in the past.
Felipe Massa says does not look over his shoulder and cry.
Alonso claims he has no "Get Out of Renault Free" card in his contract.

If I were an F1 team right now, I'd be Honda. :(

I went to see the Art History Director of Undergraduate Studies today. I learned a few things:

1) I have good grades.
2) I'm "solid." I guess this means I am a good Art History student.
3) I am "better than sliced bread."

I also learned that:

1) Having four courses sucks, because it appears that I have no Art History background.
2) I haven't done anything else (else meaning "anything interesting," like an internship, etcetera).

So essentially he told me I was a blip on the radar. But a great blip. Shit, guys, I really need to look cooler and more interesting. How am I going to get into grad school if I look so boring? It looks like I have barely done anything in my major field. To my credit, I have tried. I've tried to take as many classes as possible, develop my interests, and think about the next steps. But I guess I need to try harder.

Hooray, Kimi Raikkonen!

A big hooray to Kimi Raikkonen for having mastered the subtle art of English sayings!

"They say the third time's the charm, but in our case I hope it is the forth time to bring the result."

Cleverness! The misspelling of "fourth" however, leaves some room for debate: Ferrari typo, or Raikkonen grammatical error?
Also a big hooray to Kimi for admitting that Bahrain "makes [him] want to play in [a] sandbox."

Selmer Birkelo

So, I'm up for a Selmer Birkelo scholarship. Or at least I will be, come tomorrow. This is pretty intense. I mean, the department contacted me. And they've already talked to my professors. And Sheila McNally is prepared to write me a recommendation letter! How did this happen? It sucks that it's this week, though, since academically my world has just exploded, but wouldn't it be cool if I got it? Frankly, it would be amazing.
